Vision and Mission
The vision of the North Judson-San Pierre library media centers is to promote literacy, including digital literacy, across all grade levels through open access to all students. In order to fulfill that vision, the mission of the media centers is to ensure that students are effective users of ideas and information and to provide a wide variety of current, reputable, and accessible resources in both book and digital forms. The library media staff will collaborate with teachers to encourage students to be lifelong thinkers, effective problem solvers, independent readers, and adept researchers, all with an ethical online presence.
Intellectual FreedomThe selection of library media materials is based on the patron's right to read and his or her freedom from censorship by others. Many materials are controversial and any given item might offend some persons. Selections are not made on the basis of anticipated approval or disapproval. The merits of the work, its relationship to the total collection, and serving the school community as a whole will be the primary considerations. Library media personnel do not try to justify any particular idea nor promote any point of view.
Selection is made with respect to the age appropriateness of the materials. However, responsibility for reading of minors rests with their parents and legal guardians. Selection of shelving of materials will not be inhibited by the possibility that materials may be offensive to some persons.
